Great!

Although I was skeptical because I couldn’t find much information about the MAF scanner, I took a risk, and I don’t regret it. From the first use, everything is intuitive and fast. The software integrated into the device does a very good job, but further processing in another software will be needed for more precise or specialized editing. I am extremely pleased!

Three for Healthcare

We use 'Three' for scanning in the healthcare field. Its ability to operate autonomously and without a connection to the hospital network has really made its implementation easier. That's a big plus. Regarding acquisition, we are satisfied with the results obtained with the stage and with the simplicity of use. We have more difficulties with the acquisition of objects off the stage. But overall, the quality-price ratio of Three is fabulous.

Great scans

Fantastic system for close high quality scanning. The intrication of the turntable and the scanner, plus the visible light alignement makes everything easy.

Excellent Scanner! Far exceeds my expectations.

I’ve been a maker for over 10 years and have owned several 3D scanners. I’ve always looked for a way to make my design process easier. While I’m okay with Fusion360, I’ve always wanted a tool to help me build custom mounts and scan multiple parts to arrange them. Over the years, I’ve bought a few scanners and even built my own SLS scanner. While I could get decent results, it was always a hassle.

On top of that, I don’t always want to scan where my computer is, so I needed a pretty powerful laptop to run the software.

The Matter and Form 3 makes 3D scanning so much easier. I just power it on, connect to a web UI, calibrate it in under a minute, and start scanning.

The turntable works great, and the automatic scan alignment works about 90% of the time (with options for point picking for the other 10%). Now, I can focus on making cool things instead of fiddling with scanning software. I don’t even need to install any software to use this scanner!

I’m also really happy with the support and the regular updates. This thing just works!

Thanks, Matter and Form!

Scanner is very good. Software not so.....

Enter and delete keyboard keys should be enabled for many functions. The lasoo editing tool is not very good in that it is difficult to get (if at all possible) a straight line. It would be better to allow straight lines to allow the formation of triangles.... (like with the DAVID SW). Editing virtually always requires several "cuts". For this reason, the editing tool's selection should remain active until another function is selected. Editing also should be allowed after meshing.. As time goes by, I may have additional wants/suggestions... The Harware is neat and quite capable.

Simple and brilliant

Typically Matter & Form. Simple and effective execution in a surprising package that does a lot very simply. While not perfect yet still very impressive at launch. M&F diligently working on improving performance and reliability.

Best scanner I have used yet

This is the fifth 3D scanner have owned over the past 12 years. It addresses all the limitations I had with previous scanners while being easy to use. Lots of options to maximize the quality of the scan while minimizing scan time for the wide range is objects we scan. The versatility is beyond what we had hoped for when we backed the kick starter project

Great for a 3D printing workflow

Amazing tool for repairs, creativity, and great as a starting point for building up from a base. The fact that there's no software to install is even better, just plug it in and go.

MAF 3 review

I have been saving the MAF 3 for a winter project. Summer and Fall are a very busy time demanding all my attention in other directions. I do look forward to seeing how well I can scan various scale objects for 3d printing.

Opens up a lot of possibilities in 3d modeling ,parts replication/restoration, and printing.

I purchased Three for several reasons, no need for cloud, no need for dedicated computer on the spot, no "Software as a Service", wide 3d file format support, and a long track record in the field.

I looked into several other competitors, but only Three felt right with its focus on capture quality. I really am thoroughly impressed with the output quality results of Three.

The product hardware is well built, the case is perfect for safeguarding Three in transport. A LOT of thought has gone into Three!

Since my purchase, I have found several other community members with very passionate views and ideas for further improving the experience. Additionally, API support really gives Three a lot more possibilities for customization and product flexibility.

While I earlier said Three is focused on quality output, its results are reasonably quick given what detail it is being asked to capture. The web interface is intuitive, the available tools make sense and are placed logically. Not much of a learning curve to get going with Three. Everything is all in one place and packaged neatly together (Software and hardware).

Mostly I have scanned small 4" miniatures on the turntable so far. I plan on scanning some stair posts that our dogs have chewed apart to see how close I can get a print to fit the missing part. I can see this working great for CNC projects as well as 3d Printing, and just simply bringing real world objects into 3d space to learn 3d modeling.

I am absolutely thrilled to have my Three in my hands. Thanks for opening up an amazing field for me to explore! :)

A Scanner That Punches Far Above Its Weight

THREE is a powerhouse, plain and simple. I've been scanning professionally for almost 5 years now, having used offerings from Artec, Einscan, and Faro. Its ability to capture surfaces that most other scanners struggle with, the detail retrieval, ease of use, flexibility and painless processing, are all worth noting on their own. But putting all of that under a prosumer price point makes this powerful little scanner something to behold. Plus, the synchronized turntable is a cherry on top of the sundae that is THREE.

This review is of the initial release and there are areas lacking like texture capture, but it can be improved on the user's side with decent lighting. Amazingly, this is the only real gripe I've had with it and it's minor. There were concerns on reddit before its launch that the 16GB of storage would be too little, but after scanning everything that was scannable on my desk at the highest density possible, I'm 22 projects in on the scanner and the storage is not even half full. I'm not sure how they are doing it, but it seems they have tapped into quantum physics and are storing scan data in a pocket dimension (don't quote me on that).

In summary, I am exceedingly happy with what THREE can do and I look forward to scanning literally everything I can get my hands on!
